Swing Pigalle is a club for all of us who simply love the jazz music of the Golden era of swing music. Here you can hear the finest toe-tapping music of swing jazz - and even be tempted up to dance! Swing Pigalle has even got its own house band that invites high calibre soloists to perform with them. These soloists and guests are handpicked and quite often with a twist and a surprising edge to our choice. And don’t be surprised if you bump into a magician, tap dancer or a well-equipped absinthe bar. Walk up the red carpet and into the lion’s den!

The battle lines are drawn on this last evening of the Copenhagen jazz festival. On the one hand, we have the town’s hard-working, strong-swinging, New Orleans cats in Six City Stompers and on the other, the crazy, exotically beautiful musicians in Mames Babegenush. It’s going to be a close run thing, and you’d be well advised to put on your best dancing shoes, because you’ll be ensnared by New Orleans grooves and wild klezmer rhythms.
Six City Stompers consists of both experienced and young talented musicians who have set the musical bar very high and who together constitute a breath of fresh air on the traditional jazz scene. They won both first prize and the hearts of the audience at the European Championships in New Orleans Jazz in Paris. Their debut album “Work Around the Rules” has been critically-acclaimed and a sales success, and over the last couple of years they’ve toured both in Denmark and abroad, spreading happiness with their life-affirming music.
Mames Babegenush is Yiddish and means something like “mum’s aubergine salad”. The klezmer that they play is both manic and melodic - from unruly sirbas to plaintive waltzes. Over the last couple of years, Mames Babegenush have played lots of concerts in places such as Carnegie Hall in New York, The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, the Roskilde festival together with Kenneth Bager and the New York Gypsy Festival. Mames Babegenush also played at this year’s SPOT Festival.
The late evening and night are in the thrall of Club de la Faye. ”Welcome, bienvenue, bon jour!” The absinth bar is open in the sybarite’s den. Behind the thick red velvet curtains seduction awaits….
