Situated right in the heart of Copenhagen, Jazzhouse offers a contemporary and cutting edge take on jazz and bordering genres on two stages.
Jazzhouse opened in 1991. After a break in 2011 due to renovation Jazzhouse reopened in 2012 with a new design as well as a new musical profile. Most notably the former night club in Jazzhouse was closed down so that the venue could dedicate itself entirely to various expressions of live music.
Jazzhouse is a place for experiments, constantly exploring the shapes of jazz to come, presenting underground artists as well as defining musical legends. Jazzhouse sees jazz as an open form of expression rather than a genre with a fixed set of rules. Here there is space for acoustic jazz ensembles as well as free improvisation, avant-garde, folk and world music, experimental electronic sounds, alternative rock and even contemporary classical music. We also like to explore meetings between music, poetry, film and more.
Jazzhouse has two stages. The main stage (Store Scene – capacity 300 standing / 230 seated) is located in the basement. On the main stage you can experience large ensembles, acclaimed international acts and some of the best Danish groups – with great sound and yet with an intimate club atmosphere. The room is flexible and can host delicate and quiet chamber music as well as edgy, noisy and electronic sounds. The small stage (Lille Scene – capacity 90) upstairs offers an intimate and informal feel that brings the audience close to the music. At the small stage you also find our cocktail bar where you can enjoy a great cocktail after a show at the main stage.
